Shot 165g JHP with 9.0g Power Pistol

OK found some brass like 20 rounds, ah I think I have shot a few times since I started this thread. I am loading 180g FMJ with a flat top again with 9.0g Power Pistol. Seems to shoot OK but I am not having any problems with the Springfield XD-10. I really like the feel of the gun. Light due to the polymer but large enough for me to handle easy. Craig

Craig the 9.0g Power Pistol velocity should be about 1330 and 1360 fps

OK I am getting low on Power Pistol so out of desperation I bought a jug of BE 84. I have Alliants data for it so that’s not a problem. I have noticed that the data is VERY close to PP like within a ten of a grain or two. I have loaded 10 9mm to test and then we will see the 10mm loads next. Boy we are having fun now!! BTW this jug I though was 4 lbs for 269 bucks but it turned out to be 8 lbs. We will be having a lot of fun now. Craig

Hey Craig, long time, yea the BE-86 is awesome stuff, I use it almost exclusively for 9 & 10mm

Craig you made a great choice with the BE-86 powder…
BE-86 was derived from a formulation of Bullseye hence the BE designation. It is slightly faster than Power Pistol also BE-86 contains “Flash Suppressants” as well!
Power Pistol also was a formulation that was derived from Bullseye that started out with a designation of BE-84.
Powder makers can adjust formulas and the size and thickness of the cut flakes and deterrent coatings to adjust the burn rates.

Hey Kenk, how are you? OK shot the BE rounds today and saw no difference in the flash. I had some range people who saw me shoot and agreed with me. Some of the rounds even seemed brighter but really no major difference which is good as I can treat it just like my Power Pistol rounds with the same data. The 10mm is very weird data wise as all rounds are the same grain size. I have mevver seen that before!! Craig

I am wrong about the data for 10MM. I was looking at the “barrel length” of 5″ The data is all over the place so heads up on that one. Craig

The attached picture is Alliant’s data for BE-86.
Based on my own loads and some of the recent pull downs the BE-86 was being pushed above the listed loadings.

Example” I was shooting the SPEER 200 grain Gold Dots with 8.4 grains of BE-86 making 1235-1240 FPS fps

OK tried to shoot the 10MM reloads with BE 86 powder but none would chamber. I got two to finally shoot and they were fine. When I got home I found the resizing die was not screwed in all the way and I fixed that and all chambered fine. Boy when I screw up I really screw up a?? BTW the two that I got to shoot were very nice. Craig

Well I shot the 10MM today with no problems to report. It’s funny when you reload correctly with the dies set up correctly it all goes with out problems and a lot of fun to boat!! Craig

You know it’s a good day when!! A guy at the range gave me a “Berry’s 180 grain FMJ box of 250 his friends girl friend bought him and of course he wanted loaded rounds and she bought tips. So I just loaded some testing 10 mm shorts(40 cal) and will test tomorrow. We are having fun now!! Craig

Well some old bad habits are hard to break. I have a Redding t-7 press which lets me keep 9mm dies screwed it all the time with 3 empty holes to use as needed. Well the 4th taper crimp die gets left off if I don’t think I need it for like 40 call. Well I get to the range and non of the 40 will fully chamber. DUH. I get home and run them through the tamper crimp die and all fixed. Oh well will test tomorrow. Craig

Hence the reason I use my L.E. WILSON case gauge’s on everything prior to completing the batch I’m reloading. Good catch by the way, have a great weekend

Hey Ken I have had issues with this 40 call S%W gun in the past but thought I had it figured all out. I basically forgot the COL had to be in the 1.17 area instead of the book 1.12 range. I will shoot today but I am sure it will work. All so what did shoot was very light so I upped it to max 6.6 BE86. Craig

Good deal Craig, I’ve been working up some 9mm 124gr XTP loads lately with BE-86. Alliant’s max for a 124gr JHP is 5.9, and have tested everything from 5.6 – 6.2, and am pretty much liking 6.0gr’s the most so far. For me, Alliant’s recommendation of 1.12 OAL seems to function well in several of my 9’s

Hey Ken yeah I have used Power Pistol for years in 9mm at 6.2g.I use 6.2 for 115g and 124g bullets!! BE86 is about the same I am finding but in 40 cal it shot light with 6.6g with a 180g bullet. If I move up to 10mm the same round uses 8.+ I will try that next. BE86 is very good in 9mm as I shot more of it today and will shoot more tomorrow!!! Craig

Hey Craig, as long as down loading to 6.6gr of BE-&6 for a 180g 40 cal bullet doesn’t promote the possibility of a squib, it sounds like a good plan
