So I’ve been thinking about what would be the most capable 10mm SBR design and how to make it practically reasonable to market, and Sig’s recent release of the P320 XTen seems like a perfect basis.
Design priorities:
SBR / braced pistol
Standard magazines feed through the grip
Threaded, fixed barrel at 10” length
Red dot sighting preference
Facility for a forward vertical grip
Minimized weight and overall dimensions given the other priorities – targeting 4.5lbs or less
To be sure, the Flux Raider exists for the regular 320 – however, there isn’t a version yet compatible with the XTen; nor does it have the additional barrel length nor is the barrel fixed. The barrel length is important because the cartridge can actually significantly take advantage of it, and being fixed greatly simplifies suppression and compatibility with the wide range of rounds of differing velocities.
KelTec was able to do it for the 5.7×28 with their P50 based on the P90 mag. 10mm deserves a similar treatment and the P320 XTen FCU and magazine strike me as a perfect starting point.
