Reloading / Re: Is W231 / HP-38 heat sensitive?
« on: December 23, 2017, 05:12:10 AM »
Update (final):
Bad cases.  I found cracks on the bases of some of my ammo.
I found them working up a new load. New loads get extra inspection or I would not have caught it.
I have added a plunk test in a case gage on all ammo now. About 1% of my ammo wouldn't go in the gage, but would easily chamber in the barrel.
I went back and "plunked" all of my ammo and believe the issue is resolved.
Merry Xmas amigos!

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Thinking of buying a Lee Pro 1000
« on: December 21, 2017, 08:53:56 PM »
I started with a Lee 1000. The powder charger hung up.
I went to a Dillon 550 25 years ago. I couldn't be happier.
Were I getting started now, I would likely get a Dillon 650 for the 5th station.

I put a Wilson on my Kimber. It was an improvement, but not a huge one.

I heated the holster and made it into a "slide". I am quite pleased.

Yes the case will swell out to 0.4340" anything larger may show a distinct line which would be called a SMILE.

Normal sized casing are 0.4215" to about 0.4230" so yes those Glock barrels are loose...

If you are a reloader, These will make the swelling go away.   https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1012420742/redding-g-rx-carbide-base-sizing-die-kit-40-s-and-w-357-sig-10mm-auto

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Where does 10mm brass hide those little legs?
« on: November 15, 2017, 03:47:09 AM »
I put a small radius main spring housing and a heavier spring on my Kimber and I got the brass to stay a fence post closer. I still lose a lot of brass. My Glocks are better behaved on the brass but the Kimber is much more accurate.

If not needing volume capability, single stage is good.
If a progressive is in order, pick your brand and run with it.
Mine is a Dillon 550 and has served me well for 25 years or more. Were I starting over I would get the 650.
Buy once, cry once. Don't compromise on equipment.

Now I'm leaning towards some fiber optic sights after seeing a set. The Truglo TFO sights look really nice.

They are nice.

I think you would get more bang for the buck with the sights.

Both lungs and a toasted heart. Ran 20yards, game over.
Almost 2 years ago I began a quest to get a deer with my carry gun. I started with a G29 that I missed a buck with last year. I bought a Kimber that I shot better, but wasn't completely satisfied on reliability for carry. Bought  a G40 and have carried it or the 29 ever since. Mostly the 40, really the 40.
Now that I have completed the quest I think I will go back to carrying 9mm.  ;)
