Clint, first the cartridges have to fit the magazine for the 1911 45 ACP ball ammo the 1.275" length was fine.
I think you are saying the Berry's 180 seated to 1.2500" is crimping on the smaller diameter of the ogive.
Seated longer they will likely change the tipping angle as they feed into the chamber even though they fit the magazine.
What is the shortest COL you can do and not have the crimp on the ogive.  1.2600"?  1.2620"?
You might need to play with that length till you find a happy place of load them or trade them for use in 40 S&W where the bullets can be sticking out further.

However when you have bullet with flat noses or Truncated Cone the length maybe shorter because of the wide area of the flat point.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: metering Longshot: 1st impression

Longshot works best at the upper end.  I do use the RCBS uniflow but verify each on the beam scale.
I usually set the uniflow to through slightly short or exact then trickle up to exact...
Yes it is usually only a few kernels to finish...

I originally bought the LEE FCD as a finishing crimp die.  After finding I could twist the bullet as they sat inside the finished round and started seeing some leading, it prompted met to pull and measure that they were squeezed smaller than 0.4015".  With cast bullets, they are best when the retain their full diameters.  That is why I discontinued the use of the FCD early on for that process.

That was my experience.  No issues since I went back to the RCBS taper crimp die to finish my cartridges.

The biggest issue has to be disruptive family life.  Both parents working, single parent family and broken family relations takes its toll on the children.  Religion and religious teachings does help to instill respect for thy neighbor to a point if reinforced by family structure.
The parental role and supervision has to also guide by example with respect for oneself and other people and property!

News sources usually only show the bad things that take place.  Movies & Video games glorify illegal activity and weapons, brain washing the minds of younger people on a daily basis.  Social media isn't any better...example; Tide Pod challenges.  Then some turn their attention to trying to fit in with gangs, this actually may entail illegal activity as initiation or acceptance...

Now, take a young, disturbed, unsupervised, adult reaching out, not being accepted by anyone, turns to any form of acting out, anger, for what ever reason and then unleashes that energy, without any clear focus to consequences for anyone or anything to include themselves.
Then it doesn't take much to grab what ever is at hand to implement an action anytime, anywhere!  :(

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: What is THE hunting bullet for the 10mm?

Firstcoueswas80, if you are seeking load data, what powders do you have to work with?

I like the 200 grain XTP and 200 Grain Gold Dots at 1220- 1240 fps from the G-20 barrel and should be a little more from the 6" of the G-40.

The cast bullet will punch through most animals depending on how much dense bones are struck...

sparkyv, by chance were you using the LEE Factory Crimp Die to finish your cartridges?  If yes it is possible that the FCD squeezed the bullets smaller as loaded inside the casings.  I have noted this using cast bullets, found the bullets would actually turn when twisted as finished.  Pulled and measured they were squeezed smaller...
Needless to say I do not used the FCD to finish any of my cartridges for 10mm or 40S&W.  However it makes a great pass through sizing die.

It is why I never put much stock in the reports and warnings...I've run many canisters of Blue Dot in many calibers and gauges of shot shells over the years...when I started with 10mm there wasn't any printed data for 10mm, but that didn't stop me from working up my loads at the beginning of 1990, using 10.4 grains under my 200 grain XTP's and also under my 175 grain cast for target play out to 130 yards...

It doesn't get much below 18 degrees very often down here but it does get to 100 degrees at times... :o

The video showed where the rotation of the barrel was hampering coming in and out of battery.  This is just my opinion as I haven't tested any of the GP pistols.
I have to think this is related to the way the barrel rides on the rotation bearing or the bearing as it pivots.

About the magazine drops, this may be related to frame flexation during recoil causing the magazine to bounce off the catch.

The COL will likely be 1.240" - 1.242", LongShot  @ 8.0 to 8.4 will be about right based on what I have seen...

10mm Hunting / Re: Hunting with “standard / iron” sights?
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:13:23 PM »
With the S&W 1006 the adjustable sight is some what finer and better suited for distance shots, made shots to 130 yards easily.  The combat styles are for faster target acquisition at closer distances...

I do like the red ramp sights with outlined rear like on the S&W Model 29 44 mag.  Made shots out to 180 yards in my younger days!

Key is practice and knowing your limitations.
