10mm semi-auto handguns / Witness slide stop
« on: January 06, 2018, 04:51:16 AM »
yesterday while shooting my Witness steel, I noticed the slide wasn't locking open after the last shot. when I manually tried to lock it open, unless I held the slide stop lever up, it wouldn't stay open. when I took the pistol apart and cleaned it I noticed the slide stop is made of 2 parts, the outside lever and the pin that goes thru the frame. the pin looks like it was pressed into the lever and it is now loose enough that the slide can roll it enough to cause the slide to close. has any one else had this problem? and where can I get another slide stop without having to deal with EAA's crappy customer service? thanks for any help.

Gunsmithing / thoughts on a cone fit guide rod in a Witness
« on: September 13, 2016, 03:10:46 PM »
I was looking on the Hennings site at the cone fit guide rods. since my loads are on the upper end, it looks like a good idea but $ is tight right now and I don't want to buy something I really don't need. I was wondering what some of the more experienced Witness owners think about them.

Gunsmithing / problem with my Witness
« on: July 16, 2016, 10:01:02 AM »
I have been having a problem with the firing pin not protruding enough out of the firing pin stop. occasionally after firing, it seems like the f.p. stop moves a fraction of a hair but enough to keep the firing pin spring from pushing the f.p. back out. it doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be a reliability question. it does happen more often during dry firing. anybody else have this problem? if so whats the fix? thanks, Mike

Gunsmithing / .40 S&W in a 10mm Witness pistol
« on: April 17, 2016, 07:05:11 PM »
I recently bought a .40 barrel and a couple of .40 S&W mags to convert my 10mm Witness. I went to my range and before I swapped barrels, I loaded up a 10mm mag with .40 S&W and shot them thru the 10mm pistol. they functioned perfectly! I shot a bunch more and then swapped barrels and mags and they shot just as good.even with a 20# spring!  ???the .40 cartridge goes all the way into the 10mm chamber but I still had 100% ignition. my question is: did I waste money buying a .40 bbl. & mags? is there a reason why I should not shoot .40 in a 10mm bbl.? I know that it is possible to get a lead buildup in a .357 mag. chamber from shooting a lot of soft cast lead .38 spl bullets but all my 10mm/.40 bullets are either jacketed or plated. and the .40 case still seems to be headspacing where it is supposed to. I kinda like being able to just be able to use either cartridge as  interchangeably as a .38/.357 revolver. tomorrow i am going to do some more testing for reliability. does anyone know of a reason I should only shoot the .40 ammo in in the .40 mags. & bbl.?
