10mm semi-auto handguns / Lone Wolf barrel quality
« on: July 05, 2017, 09:48:30 PM »
I have a variety of Lone Wolf drop in barrels for my Glock 20. Every one, to a T, had a tight chamber. Between the consistency and LW's words, I believe this to be a feature. These chambers definitely had feeding issues, but no other issues and were above Glock stock in accuracy. After, opening up the chambers and polishing, feeding problems went away.

Question: Is this the main gripe with LW? What other problems are people having with LW barrels?

Basically I am asking (begging?  8)) if anyone with QuickLoad and/or other loading software please check these. And also let me know where you got the program and pluses and minuses.  ;D Probably will buy.

HAP 180gr Bullets

AA#9 (13.5gr)

Reloading 10mm ammo / Min OAL HAP 180gr
« on: May 28, 2017, 07:32:57 AM »
Quiz time......nothing like a 10mm challenge.  ;D

WHAT should the minimum length be with most all powders, max load, HAP 180gr?

Years ago I had a Glock 20 Gen 3 Regular.  It was like holding a 4x6. Not sure why I even bought it at the time as I could NEVER get a grip. My hands are relatively small, yet strong. I sold it, but kept the aftermarket stuff. Then I bought the SF version thinking it felt perfect, but still a bit fat and slippery. So the time has come.

1) School me on the process. Can I send the frame somewhere direct? USPS? UPS? FedEx? AND can they send it back to me direct? (I cannot say I know these laws)

2) What are the current top places? Reduction first, then stippling/texture? Pleas provide some links to favorites.

3) How about DIY? Links? I have some level of skills. I've build modded guns for the last 8 years.

Reloading 10mm ammo / 10mm reload observation
« on: January 06, 2017, 08:34:05 PM »
This is NOT a BRAG or a GRIPE. I probably shouldn't even type this.

JUST an OBSERVATION. I have been reloading 10mm ammo for a couple years. I've never had a round fail to feed or otherwise hang up. During this same time I've had plenty of Sig ammo jam up. Enough Underwood to be uber irritating. Plenty of local reloading companies. I would say I shoot more reloads than bought ammo so it's not just a numbers game.

When I mic these rounds (I was hopeful at first) - nothing stands out as largely different. BUT when I look closely (side view in an optical comparitor for example) some such as the Sig 180gr, have no crimp and  in fact the case appears to have a bell mouth. I have run several boxes of Sig through the my Lee FCD and they run much smoother, but still not perfect.

I always use a FCD. I use a normal (not undersize) die. I try like a madman to keep my OAL consistent but it varies. But what the heck?

Has anyone worked up loads in Hodgdon LIL'GUN (yet)?

Just for the new guys. Public service announcement. Your mileage may vary.  ;D

Wow crazy high price warning. Maybe it's always like this, but what a rip.

Sorry about that. Carry on.

Reloading 10mm ammo / FMJ 175 Gr Recipes - HOT
« on: May 06, 2016, 07:21:48 AM »
I received some really nice 10mm FMJ plinking rounds - 175 grains. I see a few recipes. And I suppose I could use 180gr FMJ recipes, but what do you guys recommend? Any hot 175gr recipes?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Highest Velocity 180gr POWDER in my AR
« on: April 24, 2016, 07:51:37 PM »

A #9?

I have to know. Go!

(yes I know I need a chrono)

Ran the last of my uncleaned 10mm brass through the cleaning process. I sorted and counted it. Total 516 pieces. Seemed like an average size batch, but I never had counted any of the other batches. 11 different head stamps.

Starline - 267
Underwood - 78
FC Auto - 44
Remington Peters (Nickel) - 43
Sig - 41
Top Brass - 22
Winchester - 15
PPU - 3
Norma - 1
Hornady - 1
Midway - 1

Judging the rest of my empty clean brass, I have around 3000 pieces. Not counting loaded ammo.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Longshot in longer barrels
« on: February 13, 2016, 02:47:42 PM »
I loaded some HOT 180gr rounds with Longshot last night. I did a series of rounds from 9.7gr to 10 gr for my AR.  Now I'm getting cold feet. I am going to walk in slowly and watch for pressure signs. Heck, I'm gonna chute it. The AR chamber is super supported and thick.

Anyway, I keep reading Longshot looses it's FPS mojo at 9.2 to 9.4 grains. This is because? Will barrel length follow (support) more powder charge, and commensurate higher velocity?

Factory 10mm ammo / Underwood "problem"
« on: January 31, 2016, 05:42:04 AM »
Shooting Underwood 180gr FMJ FN yesterday......strange powder residue, and about 1 in 25 seem underpowered (closer to a standard plinking round) AND a LOT of strange residue.

Yellowish white, relatively hard powder debris blown throughout my 10m AR and around the chamber and into the frame of my Glock. Over the years I've seen factory ammo do this (357Sig mostly, but some other high pressure rounds) - but usually the stuff is soft and dissolves quickly in Hoppe's. This stuff is crunchy and need to be wiped off.

What is it?

I will be contacting Underwood this week.
