10mm Hunting / Re: Hard Cast vs JHP for hogs
« on: January 15, 2018, 05:56:55 AM »
WFN GC cast from Lyman #2 from my model 40 with a 7" KKM is impressive. Accuracy first then the penetration and tissue disruption from the wide flat nose that is .8 of the caliber is impressive and effective. Penetration on big hogs makes a huge difference. In many situations shot angle and place, ent is not always ideal so getting that tissue disruption to the vitals from any angle is paramount. Hardcast WFN gets my vote as long as it is accurate in your gun.

Update with 10.7 grains of AA#7

Kriss carbine 16" barrel 1289 FPS

Model 40 Glock KKM 7" Barrel 1220 FPS

Model 20 Glock 1067 FPS

Remington LS 1911 R1 1144FPS

Encore rifle 18" Barrel 1211 FPS

RIA commander length 1911 1051 FPS

These loads although slow were very accurate.

I am not sure other than 20 years of reloading has taught me every gun is specific unto itself.

I think chamber deminsions have a great influence on velocities.

The KKM is a really tight chamber. The Encore is as well but the pressure rise is pretty fast with Longshot so it petered out so to speak in the 18” bbl. Kriss has a generous chamber and 16” bbl.

If Longshot was really slow then we would see a higher velocity in the rifle barrels.

I actually load for the best combination and of course use what I have on hand. I have some AA#7 will tray that today to see what the comparisons are.

10mm Hunting / Re: 7" KKM barrel, would you?

I got 1510 FPS from mine today 9.2 grains of Longshot that is just shy of what I get with my Encore 18" barrel.

If its a hunting pistol... Get the G40, no question.

The combination of easy installation of a red dot, longer barrel options (mine has a 7" barrel), magazine capacity, and standing up to the hottest 10mm ammo make it a no brainier.

My G40 is 100 yard accurate... But only with the red dot.

Plus plus 1 on this I did sme testing today witha load of 9.2 grains of Longshot Lrg pistol primer 180 grain HP from my model 40 7" KKM barrel

I have done allot of reloading with the Montana Bullets and they all have been great. I just recieved 500 of the 180 HP that I will load up for my various 10mm I am of the belief the 180 grain is optimum bullet weight for the 10mm. It gives the perfect balance of power and velocity. I have done some comparative tests in wet news print with thier HP they performed well in apexpansion and penetration.

picked up my G2 Contender frame and a folding stock for it then mounted my MGM 10 MM carbine barrel on it.

Oh boy you guys who are working on the 458 SOCOM you are in for a treat. I absolutely love mine and have over 500 rounds loaded up and another 250 empty cases u fired to load up. Great gun great platform. I call mine the Block Buster turns cinder blocks to dust.

I threw a Nikon 1x4 Black Force scope on it that I had laying around.  It has a lighted reticle like the Vortex. I like it much better now and it comes up as fast as a red dot especially on 1 power.

I am Trijicon fan love thier 30mm 1-4 with fiber optic retical but your scope us fine choice. these weapons are really fast to put multiple shots on target the optics enhance this accuracy.

Recieved my frame and I mounted the barrel. Nice tight chamber and I mounted the collapsable stock for this little carbine. Put a Ultradot on it and ran a variety of loads from 200 Grain WFN to Lehigh controlled chaos ammo. All of the ammo was incredibly accurate. The recoil is very low and this gem is very handi. MGM really makes a fine barrel I was hooting offhand at 35 yards printing 3-3.5" groups. The little carbine seemed to like the 155 XTP ammo. But the 200 Grain WFN shot very well. Hopefully the temps will rise so I can do some chronograph and bench work with the handi little rifle.

I put a Red dot on mine and it's the a good choice for my style of shooting.
