Mag parts for 1006
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:54:20 PM »
Had a 1006 mag to break down  today. The plastic, mag butplate broke ( along the grove that slips on the bottom )so the mag butplate catch assembly and spring were launched and all I could find was the broken plastic mag butplate.
Found the but plate@ Numrich but can not find the catch assembly any where  S&W, jackfirst and gunsparts plus I have contacted a couple of other places to no avail.
Fortunately, I have four mag  left.
When I shoot, it is informal target shooting and I have plenty of time. Do you think that it may help decrease the pressure to not load the ninth round?
I bought the 1006 about 4 years ago ,nib w/ 2 unused mag, , and purchased 3 used mag, history unknown. I do not load the mag until I am ready to go shoot, usually, the night before.
Any information would be appreciated.
Jim

You can make the catch plate easily enough.  Just trace the stock one onto a small piece of .125" thick aluminum.  For the retention boss just drill and tap for an M3 socket head cap screw. I had to slightly enlarge the hole in the plastic buttplate for the head of the cap screw (just twisted a drill bit in by hand).  Using 5 mags using the homemade catch plates and they run perfect.

Thanks azrckcrawler, I am not really good at building things like you obviously are. Thought to post on S&W forum, in the parts wanted section, what I needed and lucked out. Found the plate, catch ass and a used spring for a super price. Also  was directed to midway and they are out of the catch ass but will notify me when they are in stock ( did same with Numrich ) as all the other parts for the mag are in stock. Would like to have a couple on hand in case the same thing happens.
When I was shooting, had loaded mag on a shelf behind me. I felt something hit my back and as I was the only one at an outdoor private, range, could not figure out what was happening until I saw that something was wrong with the magazine. The plastic butplate, which had failed,  was what hit me as it was several feet behind me. Never could find the other parts in the grass.
