So, the standard 1911 mag in 45 ACP held 7 rounds, quite the revolution for the day. At some point materials advance and clever folks figured out that with a better spring steel and some cool geometry you could actually get 8 rounds into that same magazine body. The Wilson 47D is now a gold standard by which 1911 mags are judged.

That same tech puts 9 rounds of 10mm in a 47D body. Math checks out to: (.472*8)/.425 = almost 9. I stocked up on these mags several years ago. I got I think 20 or so of them from the Sig website during a promo. I want to say I paid $5 each for them.

Tripp CobraMags bring an extended “10 round” body length to the 10mm. And they do indeed hold 10 rounds. But the same magazine body also hold 10 rounds of 45 ACP. Seems like there is some value being left on the table.

The math says that a magazine body that holds 10 rounds of 45 acp should hold 11.1 rounds of 10mm. But my CobraMag is fully stuffed at 10 rounds.

I don’t have a 10 rd 45 ACP mag on hand to compare. It is possible that the CobraMag is a bit shorter than a Wilson 10 round 45 ACP mag. Other than that, I don’t see why I am not able to get an 11 round mag for 10mm that is the same size as a 10 round mag in 45 ACP. Anyone have an idea?
