I am looking for a 10mm Auto load with the 140 gr. Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator. I have a supply of Accurate #9 powder. I would like a load close to the Underwood ammo load using this bullet. The loading information on the Lehigh Defense website list a max load of Accurate #9 powder of 13.8 grs. producing a velocity of 1300 fps. The Underwood load claims a velocity of 1500 fps with the same bullet. Has anyone loaded this bullet with Accurate #9, and had good results? Thanks

Hello Center Shot! AA#9 is such that it is on the slow side of burn rate and is a dense powder. The 140 gr. Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator being solid copper is longer (Length 0.6295”) than the lead core jacketed style so it being longer occupies case capacity.
UW went with LongShot 11.6 / 11.8 grains for their propellant to achieve the Muzzle Velocity: 1550 fps with Muzzle Energy: 746 ft. lbs
      C.O.A.L.: 1.2525”
When I checked the diameter of the one I documented, the Base was smaller @ 0.3955” the upper crimp area 0.4000”

Thanks Shadow. I found some Longshot in my inventory. The Lehigh Defense website list 9.0 gr. of Longshot as the maximum load with a velocity of 1,315 fps. Have you ever tried loading over 9gr. of Longshot with the 140gr. Xtreme Penetrator? Underwood using over 11. grs. of Longshot seems very hot what are your thoughts? Thanks for your help.

The load that UW was selling worked as expected… The ones I had were from 10/2014…

Shadow, I pulled one of the Underwood Xtreme Penetrators. The powder was not Longshot. It was a much finer powder with kind of a brown tint. The load was 11.5 grains. It was very similar to the Accurate #9 that I have. Do you have any idea what powder this might be? Thanks

Shadow, I pulled one of the Underwood 140gr. Xtreme Penetrator rounds. The powder charge used by Underwood weighed 11.5grs. I took two photos, the first is the Underwood powder charge, the second photo shows the Underwood powder charge on top with Longshot on the left and AA#9 on the right for comparison . Have any guesses what powder Underwood is using. Thanks

Thank you Center Shot for the pull down picture and comparison.
Well the powder you area showing from the UW load is clealy not Longshot and not AA#9 either.
Just like before with previous powder shortages we saw changes that affected the supply chains!

It is tough looking at the pictures you have posted to see exactly what is there.
However, I’ll go out on a limb here as it may be Ramshot Silhouette powder.
Pictured below is a picture of Ramshot Silhouette powder.

Hodgdon CFE Pistol powder may get you some good performance as well.

I loaded 10 grains of Longshot with the 140gr. Xtreme Penetrator bullet. The load showed no signs of overpressure and chronographed at 1,380 fps. The Underwood round chronographed at 1,440 fps. I used my Glock G20.
