Springfield Omega / Peters-Stahl 10mm's
« on: August 04, 2012, 07:54:37 AM »
Hi, I'm new to the forum but a long time 10mm fan.  I started with a SW 1006 back in the 80's and have  610, 5 or 6 Delta's, two Colt Ten/Forty's, a Witness and a Glock mod 20 with an extra 6" barrel and a Bar-Sto 9X25 barrel.  I have to admit I have not been shooting the 10's for several years.

My question for you guys if anyone is familiar with the Omega's.  A friend of mine's Father-in-law passed away and he was disposing of his firearms collection which included a used 5" ported Omega in 10mm and a NIB 6" ported Omega in 10mm.  I bought both of them at a resonable price.  I took the used 5" to the range and fired about 50 rounds through it and was impressed with the accuracy and overall "shootability" of the pistol.  I remember when they were being sold new, but I really had never looked at them until now.

How many of you guys own them and what is your overall impression of these guns?

I don't own one but they are really the best ever in 1911 10mm's.  They are built like tanks.  The only concern is locating parts if one breaks.  I have heard you can order them from Peter Stahls still, but I have also heard that guys have issues getting parts.

None the less, I would shoot them and enjoy them.

You are certainly right about the built like a tank part.  The link-less design is much like a Glock or Sig which will help with the pressures and slide velocities generated by the 10mm round.  The external extractors are an improvement in my opinion also.  I am no kid anymore and the Peters-Stahl sights remind me of Bo-mars and help my old eyes.
