Blackhawk 10mm project?
« on: December 13, 2014, 06:37:40 PM »
So I know a guy who has an extra 10mm Blackhawk cylinder (I'm tring to purchase it from him) and I was looking at an extra 357 Blackhawk that I own and was thinking, what if I had the barrel rebored and the cylinder fitted to the gun? What do yall think? I think it would be a cool fun gun, it has a 6 1/2 barrel but I was thinking of having it cut down to 4 5/8, the gun is blued but after all the work I may even have it changed to another color. So what do yall say? Has anyone done something like this before?

Any imput wuld be great.

I plan to do one fairly soon using a 357 cylinder rebored and a custom barrel on my 44 super blackhawk. I forget the barrels actual length now but it is just about 1/8" longer than the ejector rod housing. It was originally a 7.5" gun. It gets complements every time i take it out, near perfect balance at that length.

I'm not a tinkerer, so keep that in mind as I comment:

For less money, you can probably just buy a Blackhawk in 41 mag and get the performance you seek ... and another fun caliber to play around with in the reloading room.

I thought about the 41 as well but I already have a few 10mm's and no 41's so I was thinking about just keeping it simple and staying with the same caliber.

I think I will just keep going with my Ruger GP100 10mm project.

Yeah, I've been eyeballing that GP100 conversion. It would have been a done deal by now if I would have already had one, but alas (Or maybe not!) my .357 is the Dan Wesson pistol pack. I have 6 different barrels for that one.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

 From Alan Harton.

This is an Old Model 357 Magnum that I had Alan Harton in Texas convert to 10mm. It shoots as good as it looks!

That is a nice looking setup (do you mine me asking how much it cost) and would you do it again?

Nice.  I have had thoughts finding a nice used 357/9mm Blackhawk convertible and sending it to a revolver smith to have a 10mm/40S&W convertible made out of it.  I have been hoping somebody like Lipsey or Talo might think it would be worth Ruger making one, but I don't think that is going to happen.

Can I ask when you had Alan build that for you?  Do you know if he's still taking on projects?  Thanks, Chris

Too bad his last name is not Parsons. Because that would make it an Alan Parsons Project!  ;)

Lol! I'm not much of a revolver guy but I really do enjoy the colt trooper .357 my brother in law tried to give me. Was too nice of a gift so I gave him some cash for it. Wouldn't mind having something like that in my favorite caliber too.
