      Just wondering if anyone wants to share their experiences with the 200gr XTP and Longshot? I’ve always used 180 XTPs with good results for deer hunting but I have the urge to try the 200s this year.

      Pumpkinheaver, I will say I have seen some of the wildest loadings using Longshot with various bullet weights.
      Personally for the 200 grain XTP’s I stop at 9.4 grains for my 10mm firearms 1240 fps. I stop at 9.6 for the 180 grain XTP’s 1300 fps

      Just curious how long the 200 grain XTPs are. I’ve been loading the 200 grain gold dots under eight grains of long shot at 1200 ft per second average with a 5-in barrel 1911 and 22 lb spring any higher and it was showing serious pressure issues.

        200gr Hornady XTP have been measured with Lengths of 0.6770” – 0.6800” – 0.6805” – 0.6810”

        200gr Speer GDHP have been measured with Lengths of 0.6920” – 0.6930”

        How is the chamber support with your 1911? Have seen where they lack support for the case heads and people were getting serious bulges and smiles.

      Shadow if you look at the old load data from hodgdon for the 180 and 200gr it used to show 8.5 – 9.5 gr of longshot for the 180 and 7.0 – 8.2 GR for the 200gr bullet. If you look at the website data the 180gr is 7.0-8.2 and the 200gr is the same 7.0-8.2 I believe they screwed up when they updated the website.

        It is possible they printed it wrong… Having done the pull downs and see what was used by the highest performance loads over the years, I tended to back off from what Michael Willard of SwampFox ammo was selling as with the warnings for “FULLY SUPPORTED CHAMBER” loadings.
        I had tested those but I had stepped up recoil systems that I used when I did so! I run the 22 lbs recoil springs for mine but when I tested those from SwampFox I used the 24 lbs springs to give a margin of better dwell time at in battery lockup.

      All the other powders stayed the same for 180gr except the Longshot.

      Good to know, Shadow. Do you find Longshot to possess any advantages over Blue Dot in terms of accuracy, velocity or ES/SD?

        The only advantage has been velocity gains with Longshot. Recently Hodgdon has shown using less of it in their loading data.
        Not sure if more recent batches have higher pressures or if they just showing less for their lawyers or guns not up for the potential.
